Mosquito misting systems work by releasing a chemical called pyrethrum into the air. Pyrethrum is a natural insecticide that is extracted from the chrysanthemum flower. The mist created by these systems kills mosquitoes on contact. In addition, the mist also creates a barrier against mosquitoes for a period of time after it is released, which helps to keep mosquitoes away from your home or property.

Mosquito mist systems use fog or mist to kill mosquitoes and other flying insects. The systems can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other methods such as larvicides, adulticides, and repellents. Mosquito misting systems vary in design but all work on the same basic principle: a machine generates a fine spray of pesticide that coats the insect's body and clogs its spiracles (breathing tubes). This causes the insect to die by suffocation.
