Can I install a bathroom fan myself?

I want to install the bathroom fan myself. Can I do it?

  • You can do it, but it's not easy. The first step is to turn off the power to the bathroom by shutting off the breaker that powers it. Once the power is off, remove the cover plate from the ceiling and find the junction box. The junction box is where all of the wiring for the fan will come together. Once you've found the junction box, disconnect all of the wires by unscrewing their connectors. There will be one white wire, one black wire, and one green or bare copper wire. After you've disconnected all of the wires, twist each connector on each wire clockwise until they're tight. Now it's time to get up on a ladder and install the fan.
